Notes The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS, pronounced "nakes") replaces the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system for classifying businesses. Government data issued after 1996 is released using the NAICS classification. Although many reference materials still make use of SIC, all government-issued information (such as the Economic Census) is issued with the NAICS classification. The Web site provides translation tables for changing SIC numbers to NAICS, and vice versa.
