Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN)

The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) was established in 1989 as a non-profit, non-governmental organization to provide information that would help scientists, decision-makers, and the public better understand their changing world. The site contains an impressive array of Interactive Applications primarily concerned with census mapping. Environmental treaty information a topic of one of the databases. Many other Information Systems and data resources are abstracted. Among the topics are China data collection, Mexico data collection, monitoring environmental progress, world resources, social indicators and development, gridded population of the world, global population database, U.S. demographic data, public health assessments, land quality indicators, U.S.-Mexico border environmental information, stratospheric ozone, AIDS data, and classroom training. Thematic guides exist for agriculture, human health, land use, ozone depletion, political institutions, remote sensing, environmental treaties, and integrated modeling of climate change.
